About Punjab Police
The Punjab Police operates under the
Police Rules of 1934 and is constituted by the Police Ordinance of 2002. There
is a Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore which has several functional
departments such as Legal Affairs Division, Finance and Welfare, Establishment,
Operations, Training, Research and Development, etc. These units report to the
Inspector General of Police through their respective Additional Inspector
General of Police. Police officers in regional police offices report directly
to the Inspector General of Police and are not part of the Central Police
Office (CPO) of the Punjab Police. In Punjab, the Inspector General of Police
is a former member of the government. Punjab Police Constables and Pakistan
Police Service Constables are members of Punjab Police.
